Welcome to Team Carone Foundation!
Team Carone Foundation was founded on August 1, 2014, inspired by family member Rick Carone, who was diagnosed with Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer on May 28, 2013.
Rick’s diagnosis came after visiting an urgent care facility before a trip to Texas. The doctors urged him to see a specialist immediately after detecting high liver enzymes and extremely elevated bilirubin levels. Despite this, Rick went ahead with his trip to celebrate his daughter’s 16th birthday. Throughout the trip, he felt ill and even passed out several times on the return flight home. Upon landing, Rick went straight to the hospital, where multiple tests were performed. Doctors attempted surgery to open his bile duct, initially thought to be the issue, but instead discovered a mass on his pancreas along with lesions on his liver. A CT scan confirmed Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer.
Rick sought treatment from top pancreatic cancer specialists in Chicago, but unfortunately, new procedures were not available to him because of the liver lesions. Still, Rick fought courageously—enduring countless rounds of chemotherapy and other taxing procedures. His faith in God, his love for family and friends, and his incredible optimism carried him through until his passing on June 29, 2017.
The Team Carone Foundation stands as Rick’s legacy. It is made up of family, friends, and supporters who believe that by working together, we will one day #ShutDownCancer. Thank you for your support!
The Team Carone Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. No officer, director, or volunteer receives financial benefit or compensation for their service—an uncommon distinction among nonprofits. Every donation directly supports the Foundation’s mission, with only essential administrative costs necessary for regulatory compliance.
