Remembering Rick

And how Team Carone Foundation was founded

Team Carone Foundation was founded on August 1, 2014 after being inspired by a family member, Rick Carone, who was diagnosed with Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer on May 28th, 2013. This diagnosis came after Rick went to an urgent care facility prior to a trip to Texas. They urged him to see a specialist right away because they detected high liver enzymes and his bilirubin level was through the roof. Rick decided to go to Texas because he was celebrating his daughters 16th birthday. He felt sick the entire trip including passing out several times on the return flight home. Rick decided to go straight to a hospital when he landed. There they did multiple tests and decided to perform surgery to open his bile duct, which they thought, was the source of his problem. It was then they noticed a mass on his pancreas along with lesions on his liver. A CT scan revealed that the mass was Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer. Rick engaged with the top pancreatic cancer specialists in Chicago and to his dismay found out that the new procedures for dealing with the cancer were not available to him due to the cancerous legions on his liver. Rick fought hard doing countless rounds of chemotherapy, and taxing other procedures to keep him going but sadly passed away on June 29th of 2017. His Faith in God, his Family, Friends, and his amazing optimism allowed him to survive as long as he did. The Team Carone foundation is Rick’s legacy. Team Carone Foundation is made up of family, friends, and supporters who believe if we all work together we in fact will one day #ShutDownCancer. Thank you for your support!
